Pieter Cornelis “Piet” Mondriaan was a Dutch painter born in 1872 in the Netherlands. Initially his artwork embraced naturalism and impressionism within landscape painting. These pieces were usually abstracted and held sincere personal style. Later on, he became instrumental to the De Stijl art movement of his time, which employed abstraction through the simplification of visual components: form and colour that embodied vertical and horizontal intersecting lines and primary colours. A Mondrian piece is simple yet dynamic and his later pieces have a retro-modern flare complementary to a funky space.
