Gallery Wrap Options

Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist’s canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides of the stretcher Bar or strainer bars and is secured to the back of the wooden frame. This allows for canvas prints to have a “gallery wrap” or border around the small sides of the canvas.
In canvas printing, the term “gallery wrap” refers to an image that appears on the sides of the frame as well as the front.
At ABC Fine Art we have 4 different options for gallery wrapping your print.

Mirrored Edge Gallery-Wrap

Solid Colours Gallery-Wrap

Solid Colours Gallery-Wrap

Mirrored Edge Gallery-Wrap

The first gallery wrap style is called Mirrored Edge Gallery Wrap. This wrap takes the edge of the image and reverses it over the sides to create a natural looking, stylish border.

Content Aware Filled Gallery-Wrap

Another one is Content Aware Galery Wrap, this means that through our scanning method we can generate a continuation of the main image onto the sides. For example, a beach photo with content aware fill might be extend more sand and water to the sides of the canvas; this gives it a sort of 3D feel.

Original Photo Gallery-Wrap

The next option, called Original Photo Gallery Wrap, is a wrapping technique where the whole image is made to fit the canvas so that when it wraps onto the frame, the edges of the image do as well. This makes your borders look natural but you will lose about an inch off of each edge of the image.

Solid Colours Gallery-Wrap

The final option is called Solid Colours Gallery Wrap, this technique fills the sides of the image with an appropriate solid color based on the main image.
In general the gallery wrap is one of the most popular ways to display art, or prints of any kind. Mirrored edge, content aware fill and selected solid colours are particularly popular as gallery wrapped edges. Because the wrapping process involves wrapping over the frame of the canvas, the sizes need to be taken into account when deciding what you would like.

The frame sizes are most important to note for an Original Photo Gallery Wrap, this is because based on what frame size you choose, you’ll lose different amounts of the edges of your photo. For thick frame bars (1-1/2″) we need approximately two inches of the image, and for thin bars we need 3/4″-1” on the top, bottom, and sides.
