Gallery Wrap Canvas Stretching Options
Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist’s canvas so that the it wraps around the sides of the stretcher bars or strainer bars and is secured to the back of the wooden frame. This allows for canvas prints to have a “gallery wrap” or border around the small sides of the canvas. In canvas printing, the term “gallery wrap” refers to an image that appears on the sides of the frame as well as the front. At ABC Fine Art we have 4 different options for gallery wrapping your print.

Mirrored Edge Gallery-Wrap
The Mirrored Edge Gallery-Wrap takes the edge of your image and reverses it over the sides to create a natural, stylish looking border.
Content Aware Filled Gallery-Wrap
With our advanced scanning method we can generate a continuation of your image onto the sides, hence the name Content Aware Filled Gallery-Wrap. For example, a beach photo may extend more sand and water to the sides of the canvas; this gives it a 3D feel.
Original Photo Gallery-Wrap
The next option is a wrapping technique where the whole image is made to fit the canvas so that when it wraps onto the frame, the edges of the image do as well. The original photo gallery-wrap looks natural, but be aware that you will lose about an inch off of each edge of the image.
Solid Colours Gallery-Wrap
With this technique we colour match a solid border relative to the most prominent colour in your image and utilize this for the Solid Colours Gallery-Wrap.
In general, the gallery wrap is one of the most popular ways to display art, or prints of any kind. Mirrored edge, content aware fill and selected solid colours are particularly popular as gallery wrapped edges. The frame sizes are most important to note for an original photo gallery wrap. This is because based on what frame size you choose, you’ll lose varying amounts of your edges. For thick frame bars (1-1/2″), we need approximately two inches of the image, and for thin bars, we need 3/4″-1” on the top, bottom, and sides.
The Scanners We Use
Our top of the line, vacuum table CRUSE scanner is optimal for fine art reproduction, which can be scanned with or without glass printing. The synchronous table method is groundbreaking technology, capable of digitizing artworks of the highest quality. The original is placed on a table during the scanning process and is guided under the line-scan digital camera with minimal load. In turn, it simultaneously detects height and colour generating a scan that is unmatched in accuracy.
We recognize that professional scanning requires a personal touch to generate the ideal reproduction. Some textures are captured more genuinely with fully controlled lighting, which is the case in our in house developed Camera Scanner. With mastered still photography, we achieve a very high resolution image in raw format.
The Printer We Use
Our state-of-the-art Epson SureColor P20000 Printer was designed for fine art and high-production photographic printing. It’s the ultimate production tool for black-and-white and color printmaking. Along with UltraChrome PRO 9-color pigmented inks, which include four gray levels, this printing has the power to create stunning reproductions, up to 44 inches by any length.
The Ink We Use
Epson UltraChrome PRO 9-color ink, with four levels of gray, is genuine pigment ink. This archival ink produces the widest colour gamut. Our color prints last for two hundred years, while our black-and-white prints endure for four hundred years.
