Gallery Wrap Stretching

Gallery Wrap Streching

The canvas transfer is stretched onto your choice of a wooden support frame called “stretcher bars” – available in 1/2, 3/4, 1-1/2″ and 2″ depth. In most places the edges are then finished off with a premium non-glare fabric tape (black or white). We provide you Gallery/Image wrapped where no tape is required, this method is the most popular. The canvas is stretched around the sides of the stretcher bar giving your finished product a 3-dimensional appearance. All of our stretching is done by hand that has traditionally been used by artists and craftsmen for hundreds of years. No glue or any other chemicals are used in this process and thus helps to preserve your artwork well into the future.

Stretcher Bars

Please Note: When choosing an Image or Gallery wrap you will lose the following amount of your image on the sides of the stretcher bar:

Stretcher bars sizes

  • 3/4″ deep stretcher bar – 2 inches off the length and width of your image (1 inch off each side)
  • 1-1/2″ deep stretcher bar – 3 inches off the length and width of your image (1-3/4 inches off each side)
  • 2″ deep stretcher bar – 4 inches off the length and width of your image (2-1/2 inches off each side)

Gallery Wrap Options: Mirror Edge – Content Aware Fill – Image Wrap – Solid Colour Gallery Wrap

Gallery wrap is a method of stretching an artist’s canvas so that the canvas wraps around the sides of the (Stretcher Bar or strainer bars) and is secured to the back of the wooden frame.

Stretching canvas

In canvas printing, the term “gallery wrap” refers to an image that appears on the sides of the frame as well as the front. The image on the sides is either a continuation or a reflection of the main image, or an otherwise fabricated element such as a solid colour or colours derived from the adjacent image. Gallery wrap is a very popular way to display art. However, because the edges of the canvas are wrapped over the thick bars, approximately two inches of the image (top, bottom, and sides) are not visible from the front. Mirrored edge, content aware fill and original image can be used as gallery wrap options. Selected solid colours can also be used on the wrapped edges.
