Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino, known widely as Raphael, was of Italian descent born in Urbino in 1483 – he was a painter and architect of the High Renaissance. Being one of the three masters to form the ‘trinity’ of this time period alongside Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, Raphael and his creations are referenced by many. His inspiration came from the “Neoplantonic ideal of human grandeur” giving his artwork an essence of clarity, refinement and visual accuracy. Raphael’s compositions were simple and soft reflecting this before mentioned aesthetic.
