Henri Paul Gauguin was a French Post-Impressionist artist born in 1848 in Paris. He is recognized for his avant garde colour pallet and style that explored further than the impressionism rampant in this time period. Notably, his inspirations we Pablo Picasso and Edvard Munch. Gauguin was pivotal for the Symbolist movement through the many artistic mediums he delved into. He employed the supernatural elements in seemingly everyday objects and subjects. This was founded in a belief that art is abstraction – nature is to be interpreted and produced back out into the world in new and imaginative ways. A Gauguin original is awe inspiring, it provokes deep thought and admiration.
