Andy Warhol was a revolutionary American artist born in 1928. He was the father of pop art, a new wave of visual art in the 1960s. It was brought to life through multimedia including painting, silk-screening, photography and film. He produced imagery that was controversial and liberated the artist front for gay people before the liberation movement took off. This was reflected in his imagery. Warhol began as a commercial illustrator, which is also evident in his creations. Best known for his renown Cambell’s Soup Cans and portrait reproductions of individuals such as Marilyn Monroe – a Warhol original can’t be missed.
