Rembrandt Harmenszoon Van Rign was a Dutch painter and etcher born in the Netherlands in 1606. He is considered to be one of the most influential painters and print makers in European art history. Whilst his early years were dedicated to that of portrait work within the Baroque style, he expanded his innovations to landscape, genre scenes and allegorical scenes that gave rise to many new prolific schools. Many artists learned under him in the Dutch Golden Age, making him the most appreciated artist in Dutch history.
